Obverse description Central field bearing a complex heraldic composition of multiple quartered shields surmounted by a crown, displaying the arms associated with Frederick V of Habsburg as Archduke of Austria and Holy Roman Emperor-elect. The shields include the Austrian fess, the Styrian panther, and other dynastic quarterings, rendered in the Gothic hammered style typical of mid-fifteenth-century Austrian coinage. The devices are arranged within a beaded inner circle. A Gothic legend in uncial characters encircles the design, reading the date and denomination inscription. The overall strike is characteristic of irregular hammered planchets of the period.
