| Reverse description | Central device depicts a large royal crown of three fleurs-de-lis and two visible arches, jewelled at the base with three pellets, set upon a decorated bar, all rendered in high relief in the hammered style. The crown is flanked on either side by alternating mullets (six-pointed stars) and wheel-like rosette ornaments arranged within a broad outer legend border. The reverse legend in Gothic uncial script proclaims Edward's ducal title over Aquitaine. The overall composition is characteristic of the feudal coinage of English-held Gascony during the reign of Edward III, drawing stylistic parallels with contemporary Anglo-Gallic issues. |
