The shield bears the traditional arms of Luxembourg rendered in fine hammered relief. Four small decorative crosses or rosettes are positioned in the angles around the crowned shield, enhancing the Gothic aesthetic. The peripheral legend in Gothic uncial lettering proclaims the monetary authority of Luxembourg, separated from the inner design by a rope-twist border. The overall composition is characteristic of the late medieval gros denomination struck under Wenceslaus II. |
