Wenceslaus I ruled Luxembourg from 1353 until his death in 1383, a tenure that coincided with the duchy's increasing entanglement in the political orbit of the House of Luxembourg's imperial ambitions — his nephew was Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor. Small fractional gros of this type circulated alongside heavier denominations in a regional economy where Flemish and French monetary influences collided on the Moselle trade routes.
At 0.65g, these fractions were struck on notably thin flans, and surviving examples with full, uncracked planchets are considerably scarcer than the catalog numbers suggest.
