| Obverse description | Central cross pattée within a beaded inner circle, dividing the inner legend into four segments reading PHILIPPVS REX. An outer legend band carries the religious inscription BNDICTV: SIT: NOME: DNI: NRI: DEI: IHV. XPI, separated from the inner zone by a second beaded border. The design is characteristic of the hammered gros tournois coinage of the Capetian and Valois periods, with bold Gothic lettering in the Latin script. |
