Obverse description Central field displays a long cross pattée with a fleur-de-lis in the lower left canton and a lis in the upper right canton, enclosed within a raised inner circle. An intermediate legend ring carries the royal name inscription PHILIPPVS REX FRANCO. An outer legend ring, separated by a beaded border, bears the religious inscription BNDICTV: SIT: NOME: DNI: NRI: DEI: IHV: XPI. The overall design is executed in the Gothic hammered style characteristic of Capetian-Valois royal coinage.
