| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a crowned, quartered royal shield bearing the arms of France (fleurs-de-lis) and Brittany (ermine), surmounted by a royal crown with fleurons. The shield is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend in Gothic uncial characters reads LVDOVICVS DEI GRA FRAnCORV REX, identifying Louis XII as King of France by the grace of God. The entire design is executed in the hammered medieval style typical of late Valois coinage. |
