Each quarter of the cross is elaborately decorated in the Gothic tradition, with the fleur-de-lis finials clearly defined in relief. A beaded inner circle frames the central cross device. The surrounding legend reads SIT NOMEN DOMINI BENEDICTVM, a devotional inscription meaning 'Blessed be the name of the Lord', separated by star stops, rendered in uncial Latin characters consistent with the style of the Valois royal mint. |
