The central device is enclosed within a plain inner circle, surrounded by two concentric Latin legends in uncial script: the outer legend records the date in full Roman numerals (ANNO DOMINI MILLESIMO CCCC XXVII, i.e. 1427), while the inner legend identifies the mint authority as MONETA DE AENHOL', denoting the monetary issue of Anholt. Pellets and annulets serve as word separators throughout the legends. The flan exhibits the characteristic irregularity and surface granularity of hand-struck medieval silver. |
