Obverse description Central field features a large Gothic uncial letter 'M' enclosed within a quadrilobe frame, the whole surmounted by a crown. The quadrilobe is rendered in a decorative Gothic style typical of late 15th-century Low Countries coinage. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the surrounding legend. The peripheral legend in Gothic uncial script reads: MON + ARCHIDVC + AVE + BG + G, signifying the monetary authority of the Archduke of Austria, Burgundy, and Gelderland.
