Johanna of Brabant struck this issue in the aftermath of the Battle of Beverhoutsveld in 1382, when the broader Low Countries were convulsed by the Ghent uprising under Philip van Artevelde. The "Rozebeker" type — named for the rose cup motif — belongs to a monetary reorganization Johanna undertook in the early 1380s as she struggled to maintain fiscal credibility while Brabant navigated between French pressure and Flemish instability on its borders.
Johanna ruled longer than any other Duke of Brabant, yet her coinage is underrepresented in major collections. The billon fineness of .479 reflects deliberate debasement policy, not accident.
