Obverse description Crowned facing bust of King James II within a beaded inner circle, the king depicted in a stylized Gothic manner wearing a crown with fleurs-de-lis and a draped surcoat with heraldic detail. Two small shields bearing the arms of Aragon (pales) appear in the lower field flanking the bust. A six-pointed star appears above at twelve o'clock, serving as a mint or die mark. The circumscribed Latin legend is separated from the central device by a beaded border, with lettering in Gothic majuscule style.

Reverse description A bold long cross pattee divides the reverse field into four quarters, each containing a pattern of pellets arranged in a conventional grouping typical of Aragonese-Catalan coinage of the period. The cross extends to the beaded inner circle, with the quarters displaying varying pellet counts. The circumscribed Latin legend naming the city of Barcelona is rendered in Gothic majuscule lettering between the beaded inner circle and the coin's irregular outer rim.
