Reverse description A plain cross pattée divides the reverse field into four quarters, each containing a pellet or annulet ornament within a beaded quadrant, a design typical of medieval Catalan coinage perpetuated under the later Habsburgs. The legend BARCINO CIVI, identifying the City of Barcelona as issuing authority, is distributed in the four angles of the cross, with the mint date appearing in one of the quarters. The overall composition follows the longstanding Barcelona groat tradition, struck by hammer on an irregular flan.
