Obverse description Central field dominated by a large displayed eagle with spread wings, rendered in a bold Gothic style characteristic of 14th-century Mosan coinage. The eagle stands over a heraldic shield at its base, the whole contained within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend in uncial Gothic characters reads the name and title of the issuing prince-bishop, Adolph de la Marck. The flan is irregular and slightly concave, consistent with hand-hammered silver production of the period.
