Obverse description Central field displays a large Gothic letter 'F' surmounted by a crown, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The crowned 'F' monogram serves as the royal cypher of Fernando I, rendered in a bold uncial Gothic style. Depending on the variety, a secret symbol or cross may appear to the left of the 'F'. The mint mark 'P' for Porto appears in the field. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters surrounds the central device within the outer border.
