Obverse description Central field features the crowned royal arms of France — a shield semé of fleurs-de-lis — surmounted by a royal crown of France. The shield is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin legend FRANCISCVS FR [...] running along the outer margin, partially visible due to the irregular flan typical of hammered coinage.
