Obverse description Central field occupied by the crowned royal arms of France, semé of fleurs-de-lis, enclosed within a raised tressure of trefoil form. Three crowns are distributed around the shield at the upper left, upper right, and base, all contained within an inner beaded circle. The surrounding circular legend, in Gothic-influenced Latin capitals, reads FRANCISCVS DEI GRA FRANCO REX, separated by mullets or stops, running between the inner and outer borders of the coin.

Reverse description A bold plain cross pattée occupies the central field, its arms extending to a raised inner beaded circle. In the four angles formed by the cross are alternately two royal crowns and two fleurs-de-lis, arranged in diagonal pairs, all framed within a quatrefoil inner border. The surrounding circular Latin legend NON NOBIS DOMINE SED NOMINI TVO DA GLORIAM, here abbreviated, runs between the inner beaded circle and the outer rim, separated by stops.
