| Obverse description | Central field bears a crowned shield of France (semé of fleurs-de-lis) impaled with the ermine shield of Brittany, the two coats of arms conjoined within a cusped inner circle and surmounted by a royal crown. The composition is enclosed within a beaded inner border. The surrounding legend, separated by ermine spots (mouchetures d'hermine), reads LVDOVICVS FRACOR REX BRITONVM DVX, identifying Louis XII as King of the French and Duke of Brittany. The overall style is characteristic of late Gothic hammered coinage produced for the Duchy of Brittany. |
