Reverse description A frontal standing figure of Saint John the Baptist fills the central field, nimbed and robed in a long garment, with the right hand raised in blessing and a long cross-staff held in the left hand. The figure stands on a small plinth within a beaded inner circle. The treatment is characteristic of medieval hammered coinage, with summary but expressive rendering of the drapery folds. A circular Latin legend in uncial characters surrounds the saint's effigy, invoking his name.
