The Menapii occupied territory along the lower Rhine delta and North Sea coast — the region Caesar described with evident frustration in his Gallic War commentaries, noting they were among the most difficult Belgic peoples to subdue precisely because their marshlands and dense forests made conventional military engagement nearly impossible.
