Obverse description Inscribed tablet occupying the central field, divided horizontally into two registers by a wavy or beaded line, with the Latin legend VIRI in the upper register and COM.F in the lower register, identifying the issuer as Verica, son of Commios. A small annulet or pellet motif appears above and below the tablet, serving as decorative punctuation typical of late Atrebatic coinage. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped at the edges, characteristic of hand-struck Celtic gold staters of this period. The overall style reflects the Romanised epigraphic influence increasingly adopted by southern British tribal rulers in the early first century AD.
