The Corieltauvi occupied a substantial territory across what is now Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, and Nottinghamshire, and their coinage — unlike that of many southern tribes — appears to have been issued collaboratively, with several types naming paired rulers rather than a single monarch. The South Ferriby types take their name from the Lincolnshire find site where a significant hoard brought them to scholarly attention, though examples have since turned up across the East Midlands in quantities suggesting genuine regional circulation rather than deliberate deposition.
The "Wheel" designation within the South Ferriby series distinguishes this specific die grouping from related stater types in the ABC sequence.
