Obverse description Highly abstracted, stylised head of Apollo facing right in the Celtic artistic tradition, derived from earlier Macedonian gold stater prototypes. The wreath is rendered as a series of short diagonal dashes flanked by two plain lines, with a second set of crescents arranged in characteristic Corieltauvian fashion. A prominent spike or pellet-tipped projection is accompanied by two flanking crescents, while a diagonal linear depression bisects the field with curvilinear scrolls or curls radiating from either side. The curls on the right side of the depression merge into a stylised yoke motif, and a cluster of short parallel lines runs diagonally below, echoing the orientation of the central depression.
