A crescent and scattered pellets are placed above the wolf's body, while a large single pellet and an open crescent appear below. The Iceni occupied what is now Norfolk and Suffolk, and their coinage evolved largely in isolation from Continental Gaulish influence — a product of cross-Channel trade routes that brought in Gaulish prototypes which local craftsmen then progressively abstracted over generations. The "Norfolk Wolf" series sits near the end of that abstraction sequence, the original horse motif having been reduced to geometric components across perhaps a century of copying.
ABC 622 / VA 610-1 is a well-documented variety. The pellet triangle at the feet of the wolf figure is a consistent diagnostic for this sub-type and distinguishes it from the closely related VA 605-1, where that feature is absent.
