| 裏面の説明 | A stylised horse advances to the right, depicted with a large open head in the characteristic Late Iron Age Celtic artistic tradition. The forelegs are rendered as doubled upper members, a common Iceni die convention. Above the horse, a pellet triad and a prominent hatched outline crescent are placed in the upper field. Beneath the horse, a seven- or eight-spoked wheel occupies the lower field, with a further pellet triad below the tail. The exergual area is decorated with a zigzag linear motif. |

The Iceni occupied what is now Norfolk and Suffolk, and their coinage developed largely through contact with Gaulish trading networks rather than direct Roman imposition. The "Freckenham" designation comes from the Suffolk village where a significant hoard of related material was recovered, giving modern typologists a geographic anchor — though the coins almost certainly circulated well beyond that findspot.
Struck in the decades immediately preceding and following the Roman conquest of southern Britain in 43 AD, this stater belongs to a production tradition that was already winding down under pressure from Romanization. The Iceni retained nominal autonomy under client-king arrangements until Prasutagus died around 60 AD, after which Roman annexation of the kingdom triggered the Boudiccan revolt — and effectively ended indigenous coin production entirely.
