| Obverse description | Central design features a stylised ear of barley rendered without a central stalk, with bristles projecting individually from each grain in a neat, deliberate arrangement. The composition lacks a base to the stem, giving the motif a floating appearance within the field. Blundered and partially legible inscriptions appear on either side of the central device, characteristic of a barbarous imitative issue. The lettering, reading approximately CA-NⱯ, is crudely rendered and may reflect the die-cutter's imperfect familiarity with the prototype's Latin legend. The overall style, while irregular, demonstrates a conscious attempt to replicate the Cunobelinus prototype coinage. |
