| Obverse description | Deeply concave, blank obverse field exhibiting the characteristic bowl-like flan curvature typical of Late Iron Age British gold staters derived from the Gallo-Belgic tradition. The surface is largely plain and devoid of intentional design, retaining only faint die-contact marks and natural flan irregularities across the highly polished, convex interior. A pronounced granulated or beaded rim encircles the periphery, formed by the irregular edges of the cast and hammered flan. This uninscribed obverse reflects the progressive stylistic abstraction of the Philippus-derived prototype, in which the laureate head has been entirely reduced to a plain convex surface. |
