Beschrijving voorzijde Stylised corn ear rendered without a central stalk, depicted in schematic Celtic fashion in the centre of the flan. The legend CAM appears to the left of the motif and CVN to the right, both in retrograde-influenced Celtic Latin lettering disposed across the field. The design is characteristic of the late Catuvellaunian coinage struck under Cunobelinus at Camulodunum, combining agricultural symbolism with dynastic inscription.

Aanvullende informatie

Produced in the final years before the Claudian invasion of 43 AD, this issue belongs to the coinage of Cunobelinus — the dominant ruler of southeast Britain whose power base at Camulodunum (modern Colchester) controlled much of the Thames estuary trade. Roman writers, including Suetonius, noted his death as one of the triggers that destabilized the region and gave Claudius his pretext for conquest. Coins of this type almost certainly stopped being struck when the legions landed.
