| Reverse description | A floriated cross terminating in fleurs-de-lis occupies the central field, set within a quadrilobe of trefoil form. The four lobes of the quadrilobe are each flanked and confined by a crown, creating a symmetrical heraldic composition strongly associated with French royal authority. The bold Latin legend encircling the design carries the Christogram invocation — Christ Conquers, Christ Reigns, Christ Commands — a formula of Byzantine origin long adopted by French royal coinage. The overall design is finely executed in the Gothic decorative tradition of the Valois court. |
