Small pellets are positioned at the cardinal points surrounding the central device. The circumferential Latin legend NON EST CONS ADVERS DNM 1591 S encircles the design, an abbreviated form of the Biblical motto Non est consilium adversus Dominum (There is no counsel against the Lord), with the date 1591 and the mint initial S for Sedan incorporated within the inscription.
