Reverse description An ornate cross quernée (cross with curved, clover-like terminals) occupies the centre of the field, with the letter Є at its heart. Lions passant and fleurs-de-lis alternate in the four quarters of the cross. The entire design is set within an arched quadrilobe frame resting upon a quadrate outer border, with roses positioned in the spandrel angles. Pelleted trilobes fill the external voids between the quadrilobe and the border, reflecting the refined Gothic decorative vocabulary characteristic of Plantagenet gold coinage struck for the Black Prince's Aquitainian domains.
