| Reverse description | Central field features an ornate floriated cross with a fleur-de-lis finial at each arm terminal, the cross set within a double or triple fillet square rotated 45 degrees, with trefoil or fleur-de-lis ornaments filling the four angles between the cross arms and the square. The entire central composition is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. In the four quadrants formed by the arms of the cross, additional decorative foliate elements and heraldic motifs characteristic of Flemish-French late medieval coinage are visible. The circumferential legend in Gothic uncial characters reads: + XP`C: VINCIT: XP`C: REGNAT: XP`C: IMPERAT, the well-known Christogram acclamation affirming Christ's temporal and spiritual supremacy. |
