Obverse description Within a multilobed Gothic polylobe frame set against a beaded inner circle, a crowned lion is depicted sejant erect facing left, rendered in fine relief with flowing mane and raised forepaws in the late medieval heraldic style. The surrounding legend in Gothic uncial characters reads the ruler's full title separated by saltire stops. The field between the polylobe and the beaded border is plain, emphasizing the central heraldic charge. The overall design reflects the Burgundian Gothic aesthetic characteristic of mid-fifteenth century Netherlandish coinage.
