Aanvullende informatie

Philip the Good struck this issue during the final years of his active monetary reform campaign in the Low Countries, a sustained effort to rationalize the chaotic patchwork of coinages circulating across his Burgundian territories. The lion d'or type had deep roots in Flemish and Franco-Flemish coinage tradition, and Philip's reissue carried deliberate political weight — asserting Burgundian authority over Holland, which had only come fully under his control following the forced abdication of his cousin Jacoba of Bavaria in 1433.

The .958 fineness is notably high even by Burgundian standards for gold coinage of the period.
