The entire device is enclosed within an elaborate Gothic tressure composed of nineteen cusped arches, each arc terminating in a pellet. The surrounding legend presents the Gloria in Excelsis deo in abbreviated Latin, rendered in the angular Gothic lettering typical of Edwardian Aquitanian issues. |
