Reverse description An ornate cross fleurée and chênée issues from the center of the design, its terminals flowering into fleur-de-lis; a central quadrilobe encloses the crossing. The four quarters of the cross bear alternating fleurs-de-lis and leopards passant guardant in diagonally opposed arrangement. The entire device is enclosed within an elaborate Gothic tressure composed of nineteen cusped arches, each arc terminating in a pellet. The surrounding legend presents the Gloria in Excelsis deo in abbreviated Latin, rendered in the angular Gothic lettering typical of Edwardian Aquitanian issues.
