| Descrizione del dritto | Central field occupied by the elaborately quartered royal arms of Philip II of Spain, surmounted by an imperial crown. The shield displays the complex heraldic composition of the Spanish Habsburg dominions. Encircling the arms is the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece, with its characteristic fire-steel links and pendant fleece visible at the base. The surrounding Latin legend is struck along the outer border within a beaded inner circle, reading PHS D G HISP Z REX DVX GEL, identifying Philip as by the grace of God King of Spain and Duke of Guelders. The flan is irregular in form, consistent with hammered gold coinage of the period. |

The saint is rendered in the late Gothic tradition characteristic of Burgundian-influenced Low Countries coinage. The date 1568 is divided and incorporated into the surrounding Latin legend, which reads DOMINVS MIHI ADIVTOR, meaning 'the Lord is my helper', a Psalm-derived motto. The composition is enclosed within a beaded circle, with the legend distributed along the coin's periphery. |
