| Obverse description | Within a beaded inner circle, the Duke Charles of France is depicted as an armored prince subduing a lion, shown wrestling the beast in a dynamic composition. Two heraldic leopards and two fleurs-de-lis are disposed in the surrounding field, referencing his dual Valois and Plantagenet dynastic claims.
