The petals and stamens of the lily are boldly modeled in high relief against the plain gold field. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading PhS DV BVRGON, an abbreviated form of the issuer's title Philippus Dux Burgundiae. The coin bears the characteristic irregular flan and hand-struck quality associated with hammered coinage of the mid-fourteenth century. |
