Obverse description Central field displays the crowned royal arms of France — a shield semé of fleurs-de-lis — surmounted by a large royal crown with elaborate fleurons and jewelled band. The shield is rendered in bold relief with three fleurs-de-lis arranged in the traditional French royal pattern. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, with the circumferential legend in Gothic uncial characters running between two beaded borders around the entire periphery of the flan.
Obverse script Latin (uncial)
Obverse lettering LVDOVICVS XII D G F REX PVIE COMES A
(Translation: Louis XII, by God`s grace, king of the Franks and count of Provence.)
