Obverse lettering FRANCISCVS D G FRANCORVM REX P C A 𝜏
(Translation: Francis I, by God`s grace, king of the Franks.)
Reverse description Central motif features a bold Latin cross with plain, squared limbs, set within an ornate quatre-foil polylobe formed by leafed and foliated Gothic branches adorned with trefoil and floral motifs at each cusp. The four quadrants between the cross arms and the inner polylobe frame are filled with the same vegetal ornamentation, creating a rich decorative field. A circular Latin legend runs along the outer margin, separated by an inner beaded border. The overall composition reflects the characteristic Gothic decorative vocabulary of French royal gold coinage of the mid-16th century.
