Obverse description Central shield of France semé-de-lis, surmounted by an elaborate royal crown with fleurs-de-lis finials, all rendered in high relief typical of late 16th-century French hammered coinage. The arms display three fleurs-de-lis in the French royal arrangement. A circular legend surrounds the central device, with the date appearing in the left field. The overall composition conforms to the standard écu au soleil type issued in the name of the Catholic League king Charles X.
