| Obverse description | At center, a crowned French royal shield bearing three fleurs-de-lys is flanked on either side by ermine spots, the whole supported on the back of a porcupine — the personal badge of Louis XII as Duke of Brittany. The shield is rendered in the Gothic heraldic style typical of the period. A beaded inner circle frames the design, with the outer field bearing the circumferential Latin legend. The composition conveys both the royal authority of France and the Breton ducal identity of the issuer. |
