| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the crowned royal shield of France bearing three fleurs-de-lis in pale, surmounted by an open royal crown rendered in fine relief. Two facing crescents — the personal device of Henry II — flank the shield to left and right, serving as the defining emblem of this emission. The circumferential legend, separated by small pellets and a cross, reads clockwise beginning at the top, with the date 1552 and the Paris mint mark 'A' appearing at the base of the shield below the crown. The overall composition is boldly struck in the hammered tradition, with the devices occupying the full available field within the beaded inner border. |
