| Opis awersu | Central field occupied by the quartered heraldic shield of Maximilian of Berghes, Archbishop of Cambrai, surmounted by an imperial double-headed eagle displayed above the escutcheon. The spread wings and talons are rendered in bold relief typical of hammered gold coinage. The date 1568 appears incorporated within the surrounding Latin legend, which references Emperor Maximilian II as perpetual Augustus and Roman Emperor. A beaded border frames the design, consistent with the reverse type of gold ecus struck under imperial suzerainty. |
