| 裏面の説明 | An ornate cross formed of intertwined palm branches occupies the central field, its four arms terminating in stylised fleur-de-lis finials and foliate sprays at each angle, creating a rich decorative composition characteristic of late French Renaissance coinage. The date 1618 appears within the surrounding Latin legend, which is separated from the inner circle by a plain raised border. |

Dombes was a sovereign principality straddling the Saône floodplain north of Lyon, and in 1618 its ruler was Marie de Bourbon, who had held the title since 1608 following the death of her father. French feudal principalities retained the right to strike gold coinage well into the seventeenth century, though that right was increasingly contested by the Paris mint establishment. Dombes exercised it stubbornly.
The principality's coinage was abolished entirely in 1762 when Louis XV incorporated Dombes into the French crown following the death of the last Bourbon-Condé prince to hold it.
