Additional information

Philip the Good of Burgundy governed Holland as regent following his mother Jacqueline of Bavaria's forced abdication, a protracted dynastic struggle that had consumed the Low Countries for years. The dual naming on this emission — Jacqueline alongside Philip — reflects the deliberately ambiguous political settlement of those years, during which Jacqueline retained nominal title while Philip exercised actual authority.

The "Klinckaert" designation derives from the Flemish term for the ringing sound of struck gold, a colloquial name applied to several Burgundian écu types. Jacqueline formally renounced all claims to Holland, Zeeland, and Hainaut in 1433, which dates the closing terminus of this type precisely.
