Reverse description An ornate floriated cross pattée with trefoil terminals at each arm occupies the centre of the reverse, set within a double quatrefoil frame formed by four interlocking arcs, each lobe decorated with small lis and trefoil ornaments. The quadrilobe is itself enclosed within a plain inner circle. The surrounding legend, divided by annulet stops, bears the well-known Carolingian acclamation invoking Christ as Victor, King, and Emperor. The overall composition is characteristic of the French écu au soleil type adapted for the Holland mint at Dordrecht.
