Obverse description Draped bust of Joan of Albret, Queen of Navarre, facing right, her hair elaborately coiffed and adorned with a jewelled headdress. The effigy is rendered in a refined Renaissance style with fine detail in the drapery and facial features. The mint mark 'P' for Pau appears at the base of the bust, flanked by pellets. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, reading IOANNA DEI G REG NAVARRE D B P, separated by pellets. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border.
