Obverse description Armored and draped bust of Henry II facing right, wearing a crown adorned with fleurs-de-lis, within a beaded inner circle. The king is depicted with a short beard and ruff collar in a bold Renaissance portrait style. The Latin legend encircles the effigy along the outer border, reading from the left. The overall design reflects the robust hammered coinage tradition of mid-16th century French royal portraiture.
